Yesterday, I suddenly decided we should visit Yellowstone. I think I just feel an urgency to go see things because I'm at a point in the pregnancy where I have to take it easy and watch out for pre-term labor stuff, but overall, I feel good. I'm not nauseous, I'm not too big and uncomfortable to take a short walk or sleep well, I'm just sorta here. I know soon I'll be getting really tired and then a new baby will be around and while we have camped with a young infant and can (and probably will) do it again, it's a lot easier to get out right now with two potty trained children. Not to mention, from what I've read and heard, we've got about 2 months of good weather left up here before winter starts to set in again. So why not go while we can??
Yes, so I decided yesterday we should make the 5 hour drive and camp out at Yellowstone. This morning, we arranged a dog-sitter and got a campsite reservation and I made a list of what we needed to pack. This evening, I made a quick grocery run for hot dogs and s'more fixin's (it just wouldn't be camping without those) and Josh and I spent the evening pulling all the backpacking gear out of its storage box and reloading the box with car camping gear (I have wanderlust, not temporary insanity). By tomorrow afternoon, we should be watching Old Faithful and Sierra will be working on another Junior Ranger program and probably their "Young Scientist" program too. She was slightly upset with me that all this last minute prep meant not doing schoolwork today. I tried my best to explain to her that visiting the national parks and learning about the land, animals and history IS school, but she is very resistant to any "non-typical" school situation (especially for a 5 year old!).
I'll be back on Monday with more pictures!!
